How to Recover SEO Rankings
You lost positions. So now you want them back. Fair enough.
The method is no secret. Check Search Console for a manual action. Make sure nothing blocks the crawler. Confirm your redirects still point somewhere. Then read the pages above you and make yours better.
All of it is sound. Every bit of it is covered properly elsewhere on this site.
So none of it gets repeated here. Whether the drop is even real has its own answer elsewhere. So does whether something broke. This page is about the word in the middle of yours.
Recover.

Recover Is a Word About Getting Something Back
English uses it two ways.
You recover from an illness. Nothing gets taken back there. The verb has no object. Time does most of the work.
Then you recover a wallet. That one has an object. Something was yours. It went somewhere. So you go and get it.
Your question means the second kind. Recover rankings. A thing you had. Then lost. Now you intend to take it back.
Look at what rides along inside that. It says the position was yours. That the position was worth having, too.
Neither of those got tested. Both arrived free, attached to the word.

The Position Did Not Get More Valuable
Try it on the keyword that dropped.
Say it sat at number five. It brought forty visits a month. Every second month, one became a customer.
Now imagine you never had it.
Somebody phones you today. They can put you at number five for that term. It takes five months. The price is what five months of work costs.
Some businesses say yes to that. Others say no. Which is right depends on one number sitting in their own books. What a customer is worth to them.
Only notice that the number does not move. Whatever that position is worth today, it was worth the same last year, when you held it. It will be worth the same on the day you get it back.
Yet once it has been yours and then stopped being yours, the offer stops getting weighed. It simply gets accepted.
That is the most expensive thing about a ranking drop. None of it has to do with Google.

You Are the One Person Who Knows What It Paid
Somebody will object here. The objection is a good one.
You held it. So you are not guessing at what that position is worth. There are months of numbers from when you were up there. A stranger buying that ranking cold has nothing of the kind.
Fair. So go and use them.
Only look at what gets read during a drop. The chart of the fall. How far it went. Then how fast.
The other number sits in the same account. It rarely gets opened. What that position banked while you had it. Visits first. Then enquiries. Money after that.
You hold the one figure that settles the whole question.
Read it before you spend anything. It may well be smaller than the alarm.

The Chart Writes the Plan
There is a second cost, quieter than the first.
Recovery gets defined by a loss. So the work goes wherever the loss is. A list gets written, then ordered by whatever fell hardest.
Nothing says the thing that fell is the thing that mattered.
The term feeding your business may be sitting at three, where it has always sat. It gets nothing, too. Nothing about it dropped, so it never made the list.
Meanwhile a keyword you barely noticed slides down the list. Then it takes the quarter.
A drop is not a priority. Instead it is a memory.

Where the SEO Ranking Recovery Argument Stops
None of this says ignore a drop.
Some of them really are faults. A noindex switch left on after a redesign. Then a redirect pointing at nothing. Or a Search Console message nobody logged in to read.
Those are quick to find and fast to fix, so check them first. This afternoon, before a word of this page applies. A website audit exists to turn them up.
Then there is the site that fell everywhere at once. A different event with a different name. Diagnosing it is a separate job.
So the argument here stays narrow. It is no reason to ignore a drop. Rather it is a reason to price one.

The Work Has a Plainer Name
Now the good news. Better than it sounds, too.
Somebody will point at penalty recovery. Fair enough, since that is its own job. A manual action gets a removal, then a reconsideration request. None of it looks like ordinary SEO. Only that is the rare case, and you settled it in the first ten minutes.
For everything else there is no recovery discipline. Nothing about winning a position back differs from winning it the first time. The same page gets improved. Somebody gets a fresh reason to link to it. Then the same months pass.
Which means you already know how to do this.
It also means the target can be worked out from scratch. Write down the queries you would chase if your website went up tomorrow. No history. Forget the chart. Simply the words your customers type when ready to buy. Ordinary keyword research, nothing more exotic.
Then look for the dropped one on that list.
Should it be there, go. Go hard. Just stop calling it recovery, because it was always worth doing. Same reasoning covers whether SEO still works in a recession.

Price It Cold
Take the keyword that dropped. Then forget you ever ranked for it.
Somebody offers you that exact position. It costs what it costs. Then it takes the months it takes.
Do you buy it?
Yes, and you have your answer. That was never recovery. It is search engine optimization. The fall only reminded you to get on with it.
No, and you have a better answer still. Nothing about that position earned the money you were about to spend. You were paying to undo a feeling.
No statistic about other people’s rankings settles this one. Yours is in your own analytics.

Working With SEO Company To-The-TOP!
That chart turns up often enough. Businesses across Calgary bring it in, often with a deadline attached.
The first job is the dull one. Rule out the faults. Then price the position cold, using the numbers from the months you held it.
To-The-TOP! has been doing this work since 2007. Solo, so you deal with the person doing it. Reporting arrives monthly. Three to six months before anything meaningful moves. That answer holds whether you are recovering a ranking or earning one. Same job. No guarantees.
Where the real answer is speed, a Google Ads campaign buys attention this week. The To-The-TOP! portfolio shows the keywords this work has reached. Ruling out a Google penalty in SEO comes before any of that. Nobody asks how long a site migration takes until they are inside one.
Questions About Recovering SEO Rankings
How long does it take to recover SEO rankings?
Nobody can hand you a date. Anybody who does is guessing. The wait is the same as any other SEO work. Three to six months before much moves. Recovering a ranking is no faster than earning one.
Do I need to rewrite the page that dropped?
Only if the page is the problem. A page that lost ground to somebody better has to become better. Sometimes that means a rewrite. Often it means one section nobody bothered to write. A page that lost ground to a broken setting needs the setting fixed. Those are different jobs.
Can rankings come back on their own?
They can. Positions move around constantly without anybody touching anything. So it is worth settling whether a fall is a real decline or ordinary movement. Settle that before you spend. It has an answer of its own elsewhere.
Should I build links to recover a ranking?
Links help a page compete, exactly as they did before it dropped. Nothing about the fall changes what a link does. What it changes is your willingness to pay for one. That is the point of this page.
How do I know the drop is not my fault?
Check what can be checked. Search Console will tell you about a manual action. A crawl will tell you whether the page is reachable. Beyond that, a ranking can fall with nothing wrong on your side. No amount of content shows you a fault that was never there.
