    What Is Grey Hat SEO?

Google publishes rules. Some SEO tactics follow them completely. Others break every one on purpose. A third category sits in between and stays unflagged for now. It goes by grey hat SEO, sometimes spelled gray hat. Not endorsed in Google’s guidelines. Never explicitly banned either. Just tolerated, for the moment.

Business owners bring this question to SEO Company To-The-TOP! often. A previous agency sold them exactly this pitch. Fast movement. Almost no explanation of how it actually worked underneath. The pitch is not usually a lie. It just skips the part where the tactic could stop working overnight.

Grey hat covers a real category of tactics, not a vague feeling. Buying a few backlinks. Running scaled AI content with no editorial pass. Reviving an expired domain and pointing its old authority at a money site. None of these trigger an automatic penalty the day they go live. Google’s spam systems have gotten faster at catching them anyway. The businesses using these tactics rarely get to choose when that catch happens.

Should I Use a Local SEO Company?

A local seo company knows the map pack in your city. It knows which neighbourhoods search differently than the postal code next door.

That knowledge is worth something. It is not worth everything. Plenty of small business owners assume “local” is the whole decision. It is one factor among several. The real answer depends on what you actually need done.

How to Use AI for SEO | Calgary | SEO Company To-The-TOP!

Knowing how to use AI for SEO comes down to one clear distinction: AI is an accelerator, not an autopilot. It drafts faster, sorts data faster, and surfaces patterns a person would take hours to find. The model does not decide what your business should rank for, and it does not understand your customers the way you do. We sort that line out with Calgary clients almost every week. The owner who expects AI to run the whole strategy ends up disappointed. Treat it as a very fast junior assistant instead, and the time savings are real. Most of what good SEO looks like at To-The-TOP! in 2026 is a human steering, with AI doing the heavy lifting underneath.

This guide walks through the parts of the workflow where AI for SEO actually pays off. Keyword research. Content. Technical fixes. The tools. And the places it quietly makes things worse, because nobody selling AI tools wants to talk about those.

Are 404 Errors Bad for SEO?

Every client site we audit still turns up 404 errors. Sometimes hundreds. The question that follows every crawl report: do 404 errors on your website actually damage your rankings?

Truth is, it sits somewhere between “not really” and “it depends on which ones.” Google has been clear on this for years. John Mueller confirmed it in multiple public forums. Crawlers find a broken URL, log the response code, and move on.

    What Are Google Shopping Ads?

Listings at the top of a search result change how buyers behave. Image up top. Price underneath. Store name beside it. Comparison shopping starts before anyone clicks. Google Shopping Ads are how retailers put their inventory into that position. Run through the same platform as text search and display, Shopping campaigns pull directly from an inventory feed to build visual ads automatically.

Calgary e-commerce retailers ask about these ads more often these days. The reason is clear: text search ads still require writing copy and selecting keywords. These ads simply require clean inventory data. For businesses selling physical products with large catalogues, that difference changes the setup workflow significantly. At To-The-TOP!, our Google Ads management service has supported local Calgary businesses since 2007. That work is now a regular part of what we do.

How Much Does Neil Patel Charge for SEO?

No. Neil Patel does not take on individual SEO clients anymore. His name gets attached to a lot of marketing content though. A blog with millions of readers comes with the territory. So does a YouTube channel. Same with a keyword tool called Ubersuggest. None of that is the same purchase as hiring him directly. NP Digital, the agency he co-founded, is what actually takes on client work now.

That confusion drives a lot of searches like this one. Someone reads a Neil Patel blog post, watches a few videos, decides they want him running their SEO. What they actually get, if they sign, is an agency account team. Neil Patel is the brand on the door. He is not the person doing the keyword research.

How to Write Meta Descriptions for SEO | Calgary | SEO Company To-The-TOP!

A meta description is the short block of text that sits under your page title in the search results. Most people never think about it. They build a page, hit publish, and let Google sort out the rest. Then they wonder why the listing two spots below theirs pulls more visitors.

That snippet does one job. It convinces a searcher that your result answers what they typed. Nail it and your existing rankings work harder. Skip it, or leave the field blank, and you hand attention to whoever wrote a sharper line. I have run on-page SEO for Calgary businesses since 2007, and meta descriptions are still the most-ignored 160 characters on the average website. Image alt text sits in the same neglected category, and how to write alt text for images for SEO is another quick win.

How Many Channel Keywords Should a YouTube Channel Have?

A Calgary contractor asked me last year how many keywords he should pack into his YouTube channel settings. He had read somewhere that more was better and wanted to know if forty was too few. Channel keywords are the descriptive terms you enter at the account level in YouTube Studio to tell the platform what kind of content your whole channel covers. The honest answer surprised him. Five to ten is plenty. I have run SEO Company To-The-TOP! on my own since 2007, and the urge to cram every field with terms is the same mistake I see on business websites every week.

Here is the short version before the detail. The field holds up to 500 characters, though the number worth using sits closer to five or ten focused terms, roughly 50 to 75 characters in total. Quality beats volume. Stuffing the box with loosely related words dilutes the signal instead of strengthening it. Most of the Calgary SEO thinking that applies to a website applies to a YouTube channel just as well.

How to Create SEO Friendly URLs

URLs. Google reads them before anything else on a page. Title tag comes later. Same with the H1. The address in the browser bar. Most sites underinvest there. Long URL slugs packed with stop words. Dynamic parameters with session IDs baked in. Date strings that lock otherwise evergreen content in a specific year. None of these problems are catastrophic alone. Together they signal to search engines that the site has not thought through how crawlers navigate.

Six rules cover 90% of the URL structure issues that come up in audits. Apply them from the start and they never need fixing later.

How Much Does It Cost to Buy Keywords on Google?

Two to four dollars a click for most keywords. Legal and insurance terms can run past fifty dollars a click, and sometimes well past it. That is the honest range for what it costs to buy keywords on google, though the phrase itself is a little misleading. Nobody hands Google a payment and walks away owning a word.

What you actually pay for is a click. Pay-per-click, in the shorthand everyone uses. Your ad shows when someone searches your term, and the charge only lands when that person clicks through to your site. No click, no cost. So the real question buried inside how much does it cost to buy keywords is less about a sticker price and more about an auction you enter every single time someone types that query. Worth a step back first on what SEO keywords actually are, since the same terms you bid on are the ones you can also rank for free.
